Benefits of Joining

  • Brotherhood and Sisterhood

When alumni of Greek chapters are asked to name the most rewarding part of being Greek, most say, "The friendships I gained and maintained through the years." Fraternities and sororities build a bond of brotherhood and sisterhood unmatched by any other student organization. Members gain lifelong friendships, memories, and a strong sense of accomplishment from their Greek experience. Each chapter has its own social calendar, which typically includes formals, date parties, Moms' and Dads' days and social functions with other fraternities and soroities. In addition, intramurals, step shows and Homecoming events are enjoyed by Greek students at Colorado State University.

    Leadership

Greek life provides students with a wide variety of leadership opportunities. Members can participate within their chapter as an officer or on one of the committees each chapter maintains. There are also opportunities outside each chapter to become actively involved in CSU's 350 student organizations. For members to achieve a well-rounded education, fraternities and sororities encourage active particpation in leadership experiences without and outside of the Greek Community.

    Community Service and Philanthropy

Providing community service is an integral part of fraternity and sorority life. In addition to community service, each chapter sponsors an annual event to raise money for worthwhile local and national philanthropies. These events involve direct service and fundraising that may include biking across the country, reading with elementary school students, and sports tournaments. Helping others will undoubtedly be one of the most rewarding experiences a fraternity or sorority member can have. The CSU Greek community also sponsers major service events such as Habitat for Humanity and the Food Bank of Larimer County and students participate in CSUnity, Up Til Dawn and Cans Around the Oval.

    Scholarship

The Greek community is known for high scholarship and academic excellence. Chapters maintain grade point average (GPA) requirements for membership and initiation. To assure continuing academic growth, chapters provide scholastic assistance through tutoring, academic advising and awards. CSU Greek members pride themselves on maintaining GPAs consistently above their non-Greek counterparts. Studies show that being in the Greek community also ensures a higher likelihood of graduation compared with students not involved.
